Q: First of all, can you introduce yourself and your team mates to our readers?
I’m Rulah from Team Dignitas and I’m kinda the fresh blood in the team and not as known as the other players. In the team we also have: JaKaZc - ET and Quake Wars legend and a winner of 3 QuakeCon titles, Drago – Previously known from Enemy Territory, operates as the backbone of our lineup Bjorn – BF2, ET:QW hero, thinks he is good Anderson – Best known as RELOAd from ET&ET:QW.
Q: You and the guys have played several games together, many of which might not have turned out how you would’ve liked: Wolfenstein and BFBC2 to name just two. Do you think BRINK will turn out the same way?
I definitely hope it won’t turn out the same way. Well I didn’t play Wolfenstein, but BFBC2 for example lacked features for an e-Sports game so it was kind of doomed from the start. Brink then again offers a pretty solid game that could turn out to be a good e-Sports game as soon as we get decent rulesets and improve the spectator mode. The spectator mode is a really important feature for the game to succeed, and Brink’s spectate mode lacks 1st-person and as well some kind of objective tracker, hopefully these will be added soon.
Q: What, in your opinion, needs to be changed in BRINK for the game to succeed competitively?
Well my opinion would be to limit body types, as it seems now everyone is running around with 5 light body types cause the speed and movement style that u get is superior to the slight bump in health, assault rifles and gimped movement that you will have if u use medium or heavy type. By not allowing everyone to be the fast moving guy and parkour-master it would open up new aspects for the gameplay. Also some abilities are way to strong and need to be disallowed, but I would not go with disallowing everything and making the game a Call of Duty copy. The different abilities that different classes provide can used as nice tactical equipment but by disallowing all that I just see a bc2 medic train 2nd coming.
Q: Do you believe in BRINK’s potential as a game that will satisfy people for months to come? Does it have that “enjoyability factor”?
Yes, the stopwatch game mode is great. When u start having really even matches and only win by a small margin after a hard struggle to get through the map, it will really show its true colours. Basically you can’t waste any time on pointless camping what so ever and the games should be pretty fast phased.
Q: ESL have come out with an incredible figure for their European Championship prize pool and yet, they are renowned for not paying prize money across multiple game tournaments, online and offline. What’s your opinion on this?
Well of course that’s sad and probably some people might fear for not getting the money even though they got top8. But in my own experience I didn’t really have problems with ESL paying out the prizes, but it’s been only hardware so far. This tournament is sponsored by Bethesda themself so hopefully the money will find their ways to the right owners.
Q: Advice on improving your gameplay in BRINK?
Well for starts you should probably check some commands to improve your Frames per Second in-game because the game is not that greatly optimised for now; there are some configuration programs where you can easily set them up to get more playable frames. Well Brink is mostly about working together with your team, playing as a Rambo frag whore doesn’t do the trick if you don’t play together with your teammates. Communicating while you progress on the map is important so that you can back your team up and push together for the objective.
Q: SplashDamage came out a long time ago saying they were going to support BRINK competitively - something a publisher hasn’t done in a while. Do you think SplashDamage have gone the right way about doing this?
Yes, it’s a great way for a new game to pick up some e-Sport publicity and hopefully attract more players that otherwise would not have considered playing the game. Also having the publisher support their game competitively means that they clearly aim for a good e-Sport game and hopefully provide the needed adjustments to the game to succeed as one.
